I’m thoroughly convinced that President Obama called the officiating crew last night at half time to remind them that he was rooting for the Steelers and to “keep it fair.”
That’s my only guess as to how there could have been so many horrible calls against the Arizona Cardinals. The photo on the right here, seems to show the referees discussing how to handle this situation after the Cards took the lead late in the 4th quarter. “What could we do?” a member of an officiating crew said on conditions of anonymity, “We’d already beaten them up with ridiculous facemasks, roughing the passer and personal fouls. We were at our wits end how to help the Steelers out after they blew the shot we gave ‘em with that second go after the roughing the holder call.” At this point he grinned broadly, “That was my idea. You ever heard of roughing the holder? Neither had anyone else before tonight.”
After the Steelers finally capitalized on the chances the Refs gave them with a Santonio Holmes TD catch with 35 seconds left, they thought they could breathe a sigh of relief. “I couldn’t believe it,” my source said, “The Cards were driving again. I was afraid of being sent to Gitmo for the year before it’s closed for good.”
Salvation came with 5 seconds left, when a Kurt Warner incomplete pass looked like it might be a fumble (if you weren’t looking and didn’t see his arm actually coming forward). With the Steelers recovering the incomplete pass, the crew saw their way out and quickly allowed Rothlesberger and team to snap the ball and kneel down, ending the game.
“I tell ya,” I was told, “I was really worried there for a moment, they were looking like they were going to pull off a miracle for a moment there.”
So, did the President make that call? We’ll never know, but one thing we do know, Somebody was on the side of the team from Pittsburgh. Somebody with a lot of ‘pull’.
Completely nonsensically,
